The prog band “Saft” became world famous in 1971 when they released the song “People in motion”, but in their hometown Bergen they are even more famous for their classic songs about the local football team – Brann. In 1974 they had changed their name to “Brødrene Thues ensemble” and released “Brann Platen 1974” which included the songs “Heia Brann” and “Vi e de beste”. They are considered the best football songs of all time.

Now Det Skandaløse Orkester are trying to make a follow up with this release of “Brannplaten 2022” and honoring the song writing and style of Ove Thue. The two brothers, vocalist Ove Thue and guitarist Trygve Thue, both died this year and this is our tribute to the legends.

The record includes two songs and a radio-edit.
01. “Legenden om Geir Hasund” – a song about the cult hero Geir Hasund who became a Legend of Europe in 97 (just like Det Skandaløse Orkester became in 2019). It includes an amazing guitar solo and a very catchy refrain.

02. “Fra Kniksen til Kniklas” – an irish folk and drinking song about Niklas Jensen Wassberg, the new hope and grandson of the greatest norwegian football player of all time – Roald “Kniksen” Jensen.

«In 'Det Skandaløse Orkester' there is a band that are not only truly progressive, but more important than that are simply brilliantly entertaining.»

BAND BIO

Det Skandaløse Orkester is an abnormal rock band with jazz, punk, folk, prog, humor, cabaret and Zappa influences. They are notable for their wild energi and crazy stage antics during their live shows. All 8 members are true lunatics and the charismatic band leader, composer and keyboard player Sondre Jørgensen has his hands full keeping track of the gang that is constantly going off the hinges. The guitar hero in the band can go nuts on a loud and virtuoso solo at any time and won´t stop playing until the messy lead vocalist starts playing his techno music. Then there is the dancing lady who is upside down doing inappropriate acts in front of the little horn section consisting of a very sexy sax man and a little nice boy on trumpet.

Some of their songs are instrumental and others have Norwegian lyrics which often deal with the ongoing conflict between the normal people and the outcasts in our society. Their eclectic style has been compared to similar acts such as Frank Zappa, Mr. Bungle, Tom Waits, Samla Mammas Manna and King Crimson. Something similar has never before been seen or heard in Norwegian music history.

They have released two full length albums: “No har de laget skandale igjen!” (2014) and “Tenk om noen ser deg” (2018). The latter was named the best prog album of the year by the norwegian website prognytt.no and has gotten very good reviews from here, there and everywhere.

Det Skandaløse Orkester was created in Bergen, Norway in 2011 by Sondre Jørgensen (band leader, composer, keyboards) and his childhood friend Mats Erik Zen (lead vocals). Øystein Bech-Eriksen (lead guitar) joined later the same year. Sister Pling played drums the first two years, but now she is in front of the stage doing vocals, percussion and inappropriate acts. During the first years they were a rock quintet, but then Morten Norheim (saxophone) joined in 2014 and William Grøv Skramsett (trumpet) in 2017. The same year they got a new bass player in Jørgen Haugland and Gjert Hermansen on drums. These are the 8 members of the band and sometimes they also bring along Nataniel Hjønnevåg on Xylophone and orchestral percussion to the stage.

In recent years they have played at several jazz and prog festivals in addition to over hundred club concerts in Norway. The summer of 2019 saw their first concert outside of Norway at the Zappanale Festival in Bad Doberan, Germany. The concert was an absolute highlight in the band’s career so far and resulted in the concert film “Legends of Europe”.
